Join Lucid Lane in Eliminating $1.5 Million in Medical Debt

Crippling student debt gets a lot of attention in the media, but there’s another form of debt that nearly a third of working Americans are struggling to repay: medical debt. Based on a survey from Gallup and West Health, last year Americans borrowed more than $88 billion to pay for health care. Medical debt contributed to nearly 66% of all bankruptcies nationwide. To combat this, Lucid Lane is proud to launch a fundraising campaign supporting those with cripping medical debt.

The impact of medical debt is often more profound than other forms of loan debt. One of the most challenging aspects of living a better and healthier life is overcoming medical debt while simultaneously being burdened by health challenges. For many individuals with serious substance use, mental health, and pain issues, recovery and earnings may not be available. This is especially true now during an escalation of Covid-19 infections that disproportionately affect communities with existing substance use, mental health, pain-related health challenges, and a lack of income to pay their medical bills.

Lucid Lane’s mission is to empower people with substance use, mental health, and pain to live a better and healthier life. We understand how devastating and expensive medical costs can be to our fellow Americans. As a result, the Lucid Lane Team is coordinating with RIP Medical Debt, to help people in these communities reclaim their lives.

We are determined to help Americans who are struggling by fundraising to erase more than $1.5 million in medical debt. The Lucid Lane Team will campaign to raise $15,000 across our community. For every single dollar donated, about $100 of medical debt in counties hardest hit by substance use and mental health will be forgiven.

How does this campaign work? RIP Medical Debt uses donations to purchase bundled medical debt portfolios that have gone through collection agencies for months or years. Using third-party credit data providers, it targets debt incurred by people facing financial hardship, and then forgives it. On average, $1 is leveraged to abolish $100 in medical debt.

Our partnership with RIP Medical Debt will purchase portfolios of medical debt well below their face value to help forgive the debts of qualified Americans in communities struggling with substance dependency, chronic pain, and mental health challenges.
